How do I create a pre-built assessment?

Updated 2 years ago by Amy Brown

Step 1: Within the Assessments tab, click the "Create New Assessment" link.

Step 2: Enter a name for the assessment. For the test, choose your subject area.

Step 3: If you have created assignment tags, you can assign a tag to this assessment. Check the box for the tag.

Step 4: Decide if you want to share this assessment with other teachers at your school. Then make any adjustments to this assessment's settings. Click the "Continue" button.

Step 5: Click the "USATestprep Chooses the Questions" button. With pre-built mode, USATestprep will select all of the questions for you. You will see the breakdown of standards that will be included in a pre-built assessment. Pre-built assessments are summative.

Step 6: Choose the length of your assessment. You have the option to choose a Small, Medium, Large, or Full-length test. The pie graph summarizes the percentages that will be reflected on the Pre-Built assessment. Click the "Continue" button to add more item types. If you're done, click the "Continue and Skip to Preview" link.

Step 7: For steps 3 through 6, choose yes or no to add a variety of other item types, including your own questions, performance tasks, two-part items, and free-response questions.

Step 8: In step 7, preview all of the questions that were selected. For each question, you can see what standard it's associated with in the bottom right corner. Feel free to use the "Replace with Similar Question" link to swap a question out for another one (still aligned to the exact same standard).

Step 9: Hover over the stats icon to see the percent correct (to gauge how difficult the question is). Click the "Question Feedback" button to send feedback directly to our academic team. If you like a question and want to have quick access to it in the future when building assessments, click the "Add to Favorites" star icon.

Step 10: Click the "Student View" button to preview the assessment exactly as a student will see it. Use the "Stats" button for a quick breakdown of the questions by DOK level and standard. Click the "Save Assessment" button when you're happy with your assessment.

Step 11: Your assessment has successfully been created. Go ahead and use the "Assign this Assessment" button if you're ready to assign it to your classes. Otherwise, hold off and assign it later from your Assessments tab.

Step 12: Your newly-created assessment will appear at the top of your assessments list. Use the "Edit" pencil icon to make any changes up until the time students begin completing the assessment. Once there are results, editing will no longer be allowed.

Step 13: Even after students have completed an assessment, you can use the "Settings" gear icon to make adjustments to your settings.
